UNSHACKLE MY MIND

Shackles and chains,

Shackle my neck and hands.

You mar my movements with your chains,

Lash my buttocks, beat my back.

Force me to learn your talks.

Beat me till I am weary to walk.

Whilst I learn, push me to work,

In the fields of your land.

Yet in all these, do not cut out my tongue.

Oil the shackles and chain me,

Or ignore the chains and walk with me.

After all, my owners sold me to you,

There's nowhere to run to.

There's no refuge, nowhere cool.

And join us whilst we sing these songs that calm our nerves.

You will chain me anyway, you think I have black magic that kills.

Yet the black powder you pour into the mouth of that barrel that kills,

Killed my brother and another's sister.

We have sang songs to strengthen us,

Songs to boost our faith,

Songs that reminded us of the land we have left behind.

Put shackles on our necks,

Hands and legs.

Let us journey through these tides.

But please don't chain our minds.

_We forgot to sing this song,

And we lost, though liberated.
